Perná lies at the foot of the Pavlovské vrchy, about 8 km from Mikulov. Most of its cadastral area falls within the Pálava Protected Landscape Area.

The first mention of the village dates to 1305. A breeding station was established in Perná in 1946. The grape varieties Pálava and Aurelius were bred there.
